Over the next few months, my series of Style File blogs will feature some of the key items that will make a big difference in your wardrobe. This month features jumpsuits – easy one piece dressing that can be worn for any occasion, smart or casual.
The photograph features a floral jumpsuit in a tailored fit which could be worn for a wedding or special event, on holiday or for lunch with family or friends. Wearing one colour or pattern from top to toe helps to make you look taller and slimmer and all over pattern can help disguise any lumps and bumps. The floral design with its large bold blooms would suit someone who has a romantic or a dramatic personal style. You could wear this for a smart occasion with a blazer, earrings and heels or more casually with trainers or sandals.
Those with natural style personalities often prefer a jumpsuit to a formal dress as it can still look smart but is more comfortable.
The key to finding the perfect jumpsuit for you is to find the perfect fit. If you are short, the leg length can easily be altered. However, if you are long in the body you need to ensure the bodice is long enough so try going up a size for a better fit.
Another crucial point is to make sure you can easily get in and out of it otherwise you won’t get the wear out of it. I recently tried on a gorgeous jumpsuit that was the perfect neutral pewter colour and beautiful drapey fabric and fit but I struggled to fasten the button at the back so I knew I wouldn’t enjoy wearing it.
Jumpsuit fashions over the years have varied from aviator to disco style and close fitting all in ones. Now there is such an array of different styles available in various colours and fabrics so you should find one to suit your own body shape and personal style. Whether you go for a boiler suit, a tailored design or a patterned style a jumpsuit in one of your best colours will certainly earn its keep in your wardrobe.
